At The Secret Garden, we are seeing a lot of brides who are coming to us wanting to have a completely DIY Wedding. From florals to decorations, catering and bonbonniere, brides want to be in control of and create the whole experience themselves. DIY certainly allows you to achieve the wedding you want and here are some of the other benefits of a DIY Wedding?
If you’re someone who doesn’t want to have the same wedding as all your friends, a DIY wedding is the way to go. Create a day that is completely unique to you, down to the details. By having a DIY wedding, you have an opportunity to create a wedding that is practically perfect in every way for you and your future husband – no generic items here! Whether you have food preferences or allergies that you want to truly cater to, or you simply want a day that you have brought together in your own signature style, a DIY wedding is the way to go. Look for a venue that will allow you to choose your own vendors like caterers and florists rather than recommending their own – this is key to having a truly unique wedding.
If you are quite particular, looking through a wedding venues list of suppliers can be stressful. You simply may not like the options on their catering menu, or the style of the work that their florist does and you can feel your heart start to sink. This is your wedding, don’t settle for average or just OK – create the day that you want! By choosing and coordinating your different vendors from people whose work you love, you can have the kind of wedding you want to have. DIY doesn’t have to mean you have to do everything yourself – but it does mean you have chosen exactly what you want.
This whole process can be quite stressful, so make sure that you are able to handle the stress and pressure of organising and coordinating your own wedding before you do down that path.
The cost of your wedding can often be a contentious issue. Whether it is between you and your partner, or whether it’s between you and your family because they are paying for some of the wedding, the last thing you want is to have a big fight about money leading up to the wedding.
In Australia, the cost of the average wedding has skyrocketed to over $50,000 in 2017, and that is an extravagant amount of money to be spending when we are constantly being told not to eat a $20 avocado on toast.
By having a DIY wedding, you have an opportunity to invest your time and love into your wedding rather than your money.
Hunt around for different suppliers to find one that fits within your budget, rather than having to choose the one recommended to you by the venue. Have you got a friend or family member who would be willing to do simply catering, floral designs or making the bonbonniere by hand – having a DIY wedding can be a great way to keep the costs lower. Be careful though and calculate your costs upfront before going full DIY – the cost of purchasing hundreds of tiny bags for gifts or buying smaller quantities of food can add up to more than if you had hired the professionals if you’re not careful!
The Secret Garden offers brides and grooms the ability to completely customise their day or to completely DIY the wedding themselves.
We DO NOT have a list of vendors that you MUST use, but we can recommend you to local experts if you want.
When booking The Secret Garden, you have access to florals growing on the property. You may want to use some of the abundant greenery available, pick your own rose petals for the aisle or confetti or select seasonal flowers to create your own unique bouquet, or bring in your own materials to create a uniquely personal styling.
However you want to DIY your wedding, we are more than happy to accommodate you. If you would like to have a stunning garden wedding that will be unique to you, we would love to have you in The Secret Garden.
